The District 205 Board of Education has scheduled a special videoconference meeting for Friday afternoon where discussions will include a possible reduction in force.

No doubt the possibility of RIFs is a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and the reduced funding expected from the State of Illinois.

Board documents give little insight into the discussion topic but board members were briefed at their regular meeting earlier in the month.

Superintendent Dr. John Asplund told board members at the May 11 meeting that the district had yet to talk about the financial ramifications of the pandemic and that it was something they’d have to do very soon.

He told board members at that meeting that the Galesburg Education Association gave the district a deadline extension for RIFs for the district’s non-licensed employees. The district has until July 1 to make those decisions, according to Asplund.

Asplund further told board members at that meeting that more information was being sought before any decision would be made.

The school board will also consider approving a contract to hire a theater consultant for the Galesburg High School Auditorium’s design.

The board could also approve a change order for the Lombard Kitchen remodel.

The District 205 school board is holding their meeting via videoconferencing service ZOOM and begins at 1:30.
