Public youth sports concerned about lasting COVID-19 effect

CHICAGO (AP) – The future of publicly funded youth sports is a growing concern because of the COVID-19 crisis. Community leaders are worry a group of children will lose sports forever. Parks and recreation programs are also the most accessible to lower-income families. Those programs are in danger of budget woes. Wayne Moss is the executive director of the National Council of Youth Sports. He calls the coronavirus “an existential threat to the youth sports landscape.”
