Knox County Fair to take the year off

The summer will likely be pretty quiet in the area.

That’s because along with a number of other local events and nearby county fairs, the Knox County Fair is now joining them in saying their event will not be held this year.

The fair says the decision to cancel this year’s fair, scheduled for July sixth through the 11th, was “extremely heartbreaking,” but that they want to make sure everyone who normally participates remains safe.

Fair Board president Ted Inness says the risks outweigh the benefits of holding the fair, but they hope to be back in 2021 “even stronger.”

The reason for cancelling is similar to that of the Warren County Fair, which announced its cancellation Monday — the Fair Board doesn’t feel they can comply with the Governor’s Restore Illinois plan.

More details Tuesday at 5:10pm with members of the Fair Board during Galesburg’s Evening News on WGIL.
