Catholic churches in Galesburg and the surrounding area will reopen this weekend, but with guidelines.
Peoria Diocese Bishop Daniel Jenky released a letter this week confirming that while outdoor services may still continue, most parish churches have been certified to open for Sunday and weekday masses.
That said, Jenky says capacity will be limited, urging those who may feel ill, may feel uncomfortable, or who may be vulnerable to infection to stay home and continue in what he called a “medical quarantine.”
Thursday, Jenky issued a second letter — this responding to the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis and the ensuing protests across the country.
In it, Jenky condemns what he says is racial injustice, and says the Lord teaches every to “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Jenky says, however, people should also pray for the safety of police and all other first responders.
