King Elementary School has a new principal.
In a special meeting Tuesday night, the District 205 Board of Education approved filling the open position for King’s principal with Valerie Hawkins.
Hawkins is a graduate of the University of Illinois where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education before attending Western Illinois University for her Master’s in Elementary Ed.
Hawkins has taught several grade levels in her time for District 205, including at King Elementary where she taught first grade. Most recently, she was an instructional coach for the district.
Superintendent Dr. John Asplund says that Hawkins will be a “tremendous leader” in the newly renovated King building and that she’ll make sure that each student is “academically challenged and supported on a daily basis.”
