Oversight agency recommends firing of 3 Chicago officers

CHICAGO (AP) – Chicago’s Civilian Office of Police Accountability has recommended the firing of three officers for making false statements about their actions. The agency announced Tuesday that Officer Clauzell Gause used excessive force in June 2014. He was accused of striking a handcuffed man in an altercation that was captured by surveillance video. In a separate case, the agency determined Officers Carol Weingart and Laura Kuhlmann provided false statements about an officer-involved shooting in December 2015. Agency officials say police Superintendent David Brown agrees with the agency’s decision. The Chicago Police Board, which oversees the department, must act on the recommendation.
