Kiwanis Splash Pad and Lake Storey Beach open Thursday

Kids looking to have a little fun in the sun can start Thursday with the opening of a pair of water features.

The City of Galesburg says that the Kiwanis Splash Pad and Lake Storey Beach will be opening today at noon. Typically, Lake Storey Beach operates 8:00 am – 7:00 pm but a noon opening will be in effect for several weeks as the city balances safety and staffing.

Wading pools will open as soon as all of the maintenance is completed and pools are filled with water. The release from the city says that Rotary Park’s Splash Pad will delay the opening for maintenance issues.

There will be some restrictions in place. The city says that a limit of 50 people inside of the fence for users of the splash pads and wading pools.

Facemasks should be worn at all recreational outdoor locations when not in the water. Attendees are encouraged to maintain physical distancing when possible and follow guidelines put forth by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Illinois Department of Public Health.
