Following many other community events in the area, the Abingdon Community Festival is off for the 2020 year.
The Festival Association fair board announced on Facebook that the 2020 festival, scheduled August 27-30, was regrettably canceled at last night’s board meeting. The fair board did vote to hold a one-day livestock show on Saturday, August 29, but with some restrictions.
The safety of the fair volunteers, exhibitors, and community members is the top priority for the board and they say they believe this is the best decision for the festival as well as the surrounding communities.
Another big event that was also canceled is the New Windsor Fair, Rodeo, and Horseshow. The 81st “biggest little rodeo” was officially canceled on Tuesday, which would have run from August 20-22.
The decision was made following the guidelines of Illinois’ reopening plan and with recent upticks in confirmed cases locally and in areas where rodeo contestants will travel from.
The board of directors also took into consideration the feedback from local, state, and federal health, government, and legal authorities in making their decision.
