Assessment officials in Knox County are letting the public know about certain property tax exemptions that will be renewed automatically this year without any needed action.
The exemptions include a freeze in assessed home value for seniors as well as exemptions for veterans and people with disabilities.
The Knox County Assessment Office will automatically install these exemptions for any homeowner that had them in 2019.
City of Galesburg Assessor Stephen Daly tells WGIL the state waived the need to reapply for the exemptions as long as it was approved by the County’s Chief Assessment Officer.
Knox County doesn’t really have one currently after Supervisor of Assessment Chris Gray retired in February, although County GIS Coordinator Bill Lotz is handling some of the duties.
County Board Chair Pam Davidson instead signed-off on the renewals.
