Knox County seeing spike in new COVID cases ahead of health department release Tuesday

Data is expected to be released Tuesday regarding new cases from the last week of Coronavirus Disease in Knox County.

Since the deactivation of the Knox County Unified Command, information on new cases are no longer being released daily. Instead, the health department is releasing data weekly.

However, the Illinois Department of Public Health says that there are now 171 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the county, an increase of 22 cases from the last press release on July 7.

For comparison, in the last week: Warren County has seen an increase of three cases, Henry County increased by 22 cases, and McDonough County had an increase of 5 cases.

The McDonough County Health Department has reported a Coronavirus Disease outbreak at Wesley Christian Child Development Center.

In a release yesterday from the health department, officials say they are performing contact tracing in an effort to reduce the risk of additional transmission.

Additionally, the center has temporarily closed to allow for the IDPH recommended disinfection and the testing of staff and families served.
