As local school districts plan, and in some cases scramble, to come up with a schedule for the upcoming school year, Knoxville District 202 came up with what school could look like later this month. After a lengthy, but productive meeting on Monday, August 3rd, according to Interim Superintendent Joe Burgess, Knoxville will be taking a “hybrid” approach. “The number one (thing that’s) part of the program would be AA – so Monday (and) Tuesday and BB – Wednesday and Thursday,” Burgess said. “Friday would be scheduled for remediation and small group. (Also) any instruction for any kids who feel they’re falling behind or if they need assistance with the remote part of those days and special needs students for those minutes that we have to get in. So (Friday) will kind of catch up everything from during the week.” A full remote option is also available for parents.
Parents are encouraged to let the district know if they’d like to go “full remote” by the end of next week. Burgess said plans could also change at any time. District 202 staff will train the week of August 17th in preparation for the upcoming year. The first day of school is scheduled for August 24th. Burgess added that he appreciated everyone’s respectable approach and input in putting together the plan: from teachers, staff, and board members, to parents, coaches, students and the community.
