KC Health Department to get nearly $220K in federal funds

Rural health departments and clinics are set to get a share of $1.2 million in federal funding from the U.S Department of Health and Human Services.

17th Congressional District Representative Cheri Bustos announced Thursday that a grand total of $1,231,752 in funds from the department’s Health Center Cluster Program.

The funding comes to the region to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and highlights the importance of ensuring these institutions have appropriate resources.

Receiving funding is the Knox County Health Department, which was awarded $219,612, as did the Henderson County Rural Health Center in Qquawka, which got $210,534.

“Our local health centers are on the frontlines of this public health crisis and have stepped up to serve our neighbors in need,” said Congresswoman Bustos. “I’m pleased to announce his federal funding [Thursday] to support our health centers’ critical efforts to keep our community safe and healthy. I’ll continue to fight for Illinoisans’ access to quality, affordable health care.”

Bustos is a member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee that oversees HHS.

Health Center Cluster Programs help community-based health care organizations provide primary care for underserved communities.

Also receiving funding was the Heartland Health Services in Peoria, Crusaders Central Clinic Association in Rockford, and the Whiteside County Health Department and Whiteside County Community Health Clinic in Rock Falls.
