The National Stearman Foundation that oversees its annual fly-in is looking to have a permanent home at the Galesburg Municipal Airport.

The Galesburg City Council at their meeting Monday night could approve a land lease for them to install a hangar.

The proposed facility would serve as a year-round to the world community of Stearman pilots, owners, enthusiasts and historians.

The building would have a Stearman Office, a retail space, seminar and banquet space, and a repository for memorabilia and artifacts.

This would be a $500,000, 10,000 sq. ft facility according to council documents.

The land lease that aldermen can approve is not expected to impact the city budget in any significant way.

Galesburg Aldermen could also approve a bid proposal for the installation of a semi-permanent restroom off the west boat ramp on Lake Storey.

The City had been looking for a restroom solution for the area and research told them vault style restrooms were the most economical option.

This year the City was awarded a grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to aid in the project’s completion.

No local contractors submitted bids, although there were a few from in the state.

Ultimately, the bid from CXT of Spokane, Washington was by far the lowest bid at $35,000, almost $13,000 less than the next lowest.
