Thursday, September 17th, just before midnight, Galesburg Police responded to the 100 block of Duvall Avenue off Pickard Road on the western edge of town. The caller stated a male subject was asleep behind the wheel of a vehicle parked in the street. Upon arrival, according to police reports, police approached the running vehicle and went in through the passenger side to turn it off and take the keys. The driver, 40-year old Thomas May Jr. of Galesburg, woke up and exited the vehicle. May couldn’t tell officers where he was or whether or not he took any drugs that night. After failing a field sobriety test, and after officers discovered a Methamphetamine pipe in clear view on the center console, May was placed under arrest. Inside May’s pocket were two squares of an amber-colored gel-like substance that was later tested to be d-lysergic acid amide – or LSA. Inside the vehicle was also a used needle. May was then transported to the Public Safety Building charged with Driving Under the Influence of Drugs, Possession of a Controlled Substance less than 5 grams, and Possession of Methamphetamine less than 5 grams.
