On Friday, October 9th, around 8:20 pm, Galesburg Police were dispatched to the 200 block of Lake Street for reports of subjects entering a residence that has been abandoned since the owner passed away. According to police reports, upon arrival, GPD discovered a backpack outside by a damaged door with a crowbar and pair of shears. Police made their presence known and entered the residence where they came upon 52-year old Jeffrey Butts of Galesburg hiding under a workbench in the basement. After detaining Butts, he told police he DID trespass, but the backpack and tools outside were not his. Inside the backpack was a glass pipe with residue that field-tested positive for methamphetamine and a cell phone. Butts gave police his phone number, which confirmed the cell phone was his. Butts was arrested and charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of Meth less than 5 grams.
