GPD investigating possible internal theft at local gas station

On Thursday, October 15th, Galesburg Police were dispatched to Becks Express on East Main Street in Galesburg in reference to a possible internal theft. The store’s management met with police and told officers that 16 cartons of cigarettes had gone missing and there weren’t any transactions for them in their system. According to police reports, the manager also told police that an employee had quit just two days prior on October 13th. GPD along with the manager reviewed security footage from October 12th where they observed a male subject enter the store empty-handed, approached the register where the employee who quit was working, and walk away with grocery bags with four cartons of cigarettes inside. The subject then re-enters the store, and again, leaves with another grocery bag full of cartons of cigarettes. During the time of the video, the weren’t any transactions for cigarettes in the system. The 16 cartons are valued at over $1,300. Police also saw footage of the ex-employee handing bags of cigarettes to a possible accomplice. Attempts to contact the ex-employee at her home were unsuccessful and the situation is still under investigation.
