John Leroy West, 86, formerly of Williamsfield, passed away on October 25, 2020, 1:05 PM, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
John was born on February 22, 1934, in Gilson. He was the son of Ronald and Ruth West. He married Johanna Knussman on March 1, 1953, in Galesburg. Together they celebrated 67 years of marriage. He is survived by his wife, Johanna of Seminary Manor, Galesburg; his sons, Greg (Lynne) West of Knoxville and Kevin (Marla) West of Williamsfield; a brother, Joey West of London Mills; granddaughters, Emily West, Amanda (Nathan Pilon) West, Andrea (Jeremiah) Fowler, Amy (Ty) Landon; great-grandsons, Preston, Dash, Kanan, and Maxwell. John was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ronald “Budge,” Oley and Theodore “Teddy”; and sisters, Doris, Lois Mae, and Marilyn.
John attended Elmwood schools. He was a farmer in the Williamsfield area. John retired from Caterpillar where he was a Material Controls Supervisor. He later managed Fritzy’s Greenhouse in Williamsfield for several years. He was an avid gardener and hunter. John loved to fish locally but more so, for over the last 50 years, he loved his annual fishing trip to Minnesota with family and friends. John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He will be greatly missed by those who loved him.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, services for John will be held at a later date.
