74th District State Representative Dan Swanson said looking at the results from Galesburg and Knox County from last night’s election was “very humbling.” The retired Lieutenant Colonel, farmer, and Woodhull native defeated challenger Christopher Demink to win his third term. Swanson was victorious in receiving 71% of the vote.
Swanson said he’s always believed in term limits, and he’s had his career in the military and doesn’t plan to make politics a career. He said that now entering his third term, it’s time to step into more of a leadership role – whether it’s minority spokesperson for committee or some other type of leadership position in the GOP caucus. “We got a lot of work to do yet in the General Assembly,” Swanson told WGIL. “We’ll get back to it here in the next couple of weeks. (November 17 – 19th) Then we’ll start up in 102nd General Assembly coming up in January.” Swanson said since the Governor didn’t veto any legislation, when they return again on December 1st for veto session, they’ll be looking at issues like education, ethics, and social justice.
