One dead in officer-involved shooting in Fulton County

The 26-year-old man shot by law enforcement in Lewistown Wednesday night has died.

WEEK-TV is reporting that Fulton County Jeff Standard said that an autopsy is scheduled for later Thursday morning.

Fulton County Sheriff’s deputies and Lewistown Police officers had identified the white male subject as having an outstanding Fulton County warrant.

The man had approached officers, brandishing a weapon, and pointed it at the authorities, who then fired on him.

The man’s identity has not been released. Illinois State Police are investigating.


Original Story:  A 26-year-old man was taken to Graham Hospital in Canton with unknown injuries after being shot by authorities in Fulton County.

According to the sheriff’s department, a Lewistown Police officer and a Fulton County Sheriff’s deputy encountered an individual wanted in the county.

Authorities approached the unnamed white male and he brandished a weapon at the officers. The two officers fired their weapons at the man, striking him.

Both officers rendered aid immediately to the individual and he was transported to the hospital.

A weapon was recovered at the scene and the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigations and ISP’s Zone 4 Investigations Unit are conducting the investigation of the shooting.

Any further information will be released by the Illinois State Police.
