Congresswoman Cheri Bustos wants to see another COVID stimulus bill move forward. She said she wants to “make sure we have another robust round of help for small business owners.” Bustos said even those businesses that received help with the Paycheck Protection Program in the CARES act are at a point where they need more help. She said a critical part of the bill is for state and local governments. “We want to make sure our firefighters, our police officers, our sanitation workers continue to get paid,” Bustos said. “We’ve also got money in there to help with childcare, support for opening school safely – which has been challenging; and also, unemployment insurance. So those are some of the main components that we actually had in the last bill that we passed that didn’t get picked up on the Senate side or signed into law.” Bustos was re-elected to a fifth term last Tuesday in a close race with challenger Esther Joy King. Bustos serves as chairwoman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
