The former chief judge of the Ninth Judicial Circuit has been hired to an area law firm’s Galesburg office.

With the election of Jeremy Karlin to the Knox County State’s Attorney, Barash & Everett, LLC has announced that the Honorable Paul L. Mangieri has joined the firm.

A release from the law firm says that “Mr. Mangieri brings with him a wealth of courtroom experience either before the bench or on the bench.”

After serving in the U.S. Navy as a JAG Corps Officer, Mangieri entered private practice with the Barash & Stoerzbach law firm in 1988 where he practiced in all areas of law but specialized in jury trial litigation, both civil and criminal, and had areas of specialty in personal injury, workers’ compensation, and commercial claims.

Prior to his time as a judge, Mangieri was elected as Knox County State’s Attorney. An office he held from 1996 until 2007.

Mangieri sat on the bench of the Ninth Circuit from 2007 until 2019, where he presided over every type of legal claim seen in state court.

Justin Raver, CEO of Barash & Everett states, “We are very excited for Paul to return to us at Barash. He is a highly-regarded trial attorney and was universally respected for his judgment and legal knowledge on the bench. As a former Barash attorney, he is very familiar with the high level of expertise, energy, and effort that we bring on behalf of every client. His addition cements our position as the go-to law firm in West-Central Illinois.”

The release adds that Mangieri will be handling criminal defense matters, personal injury, workers’ compensation, complex commercial litigation, railroad employee compensation (FELA) claims, injunctive relief, mediation, and alternative dispute resolution/case settlement conferences.
