Early afternoon on Friday, November 6th, Galesburg Police were dispatched to HyVee on National Boulevard for a report by the store’s manager of retail theft in progress. The manager and another employee met with police outside and told officers a woman had been concealing health and beauty products and produce in her purse. According to police reports, the employees said the woman had already left once, but then returned again. Police made contact with the woman: 69-year old Karen Simpson of Galesburg and asked to see inside her purse. Knowing she was caught, Simpson hung her head, opened her purse revealing the stolen items. She then lead police to her vehicle where she stored the remaining stolen items. The total price amount of the stolen items was just over $144. Simpson was found to have a prior conviction of Larceny and was placed under arrest for Theft/Prior Conviction.
