Galesburg City Council

Galesburg aldermen on Monday night approved a contractor to redesign, redevelop and migrate the city’s website.

The approved contractor Revize was also the lowest of six bidders at $29,000.

Information Systems Supervisor Orlee Lucero says the idea is to make minor updates every four years or so, as opposed to having big overhauls.

Aldermen also had an ordinance on first reading to sell a property that was demolished through a court order in 2018.

The property is at 833 Brooks St., and the adjoining property owner has expressed interest

Also on first reading was a measure to restrict parking on both sides of S. Farnham St. between the railroad tracks and Clay St. during school hours.

This is a result of a traffic study done with the City and District 205.

It was done in coordination with improvements at King School with an eye on improving the traffic flow and safety during pickup and drop-off of students.

It’s expected there will be a significant increase in elementary students at King due to the restructuring of the school’s different facilities.

The City council also gave a small lifeline to establishments that have gaming machines.

Aldermen voted to waive a new $250 fee for the machines this year.

The recommendation to waive is because of COVID-19 and the extreme economic hardship that these establishments have experienced.

The council’s approval was unanimous.

City Manager Thompson says it will resume being assessed in April 2021.
