Galesburg man arrested after stealing then crashing a vehicle

Around 9:15 pm on Sunday, November 15th, Galesburg Police responded to the 1400 block of East Fifth Street in reference to a physical domestic battery and a possible stolen vehicle call. According to police reports, upon arrival police met with the victim, a 27-year old Galesburg woman who told police she got into an argument with her boyfriend 29-year old Jeffrey Jones of Galesburg. While in her father’s vehicle, he struck her several times, took the keys, then drove off heading south down Farnham Street. The victim had a bloody nose and lip. About 45 minutes later, GPD were notified by Knox County Sheriff’s Deputies that the vehicle had been located – crashed at the intersection of Knox Highway 25 and 26 – just north of Lake Bracken. The doors were open and the airbags had deployed. Sheriff deputies located Jones about two miles down the road. Jeffrey Jones was arrested for Domestic Battery with a prior conviction, Theft of a Motor Vehicle and taken to the Knox County Jail.
