Larry Pettis, Sr., 67, of Galesburg, died at 9:07 p.m. Tuesday, November 10, 2020, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.

Larry was born January 19, 1953, in Wheatley, AR the son of Elmer and Doris E. (Morrison) Pettis, Sr. Larry is survived by his mother, Doris Pettis of Galesburg; one son, Larry (April Lopez) Pettis, Jr. of Galesburg; three daughters, Tina Hornbneak of Iowa, Rana Nelson of Galesburg, and Denishia Davis; and seven grandchildren. Larry is also survived by two sisters, Bobbie (Willie) Martin of Eastpointe, MI and Verna Pettis of Galesburg; and one brother, Elmer (Mary) Pettis, Jr. of Georgia. Along with his father, Larry was preceded in death by his longtime partner, Carol Williams in 2011.

Larry served in the US Army. Never afraid of hard work, Larry was a self-employed tuck pointer for over 36 years and was still working. He enjoyed fishing and hunting in his younger years. His family was important to him and he enjoyed having everyone over for BBQ. He attended Star of Bethlehem and Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church.

Private family services will be held. A walk through visitation will be held from 12 to 1 p.m. Friday, November 20, 2020, at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory. Due to restrictions in place pertaining to the COVID-19 pandemic, face masks, social distancing, and limited occupancy will be enforced.
