5,000 food items donated in Stuff the Bus Food Drive

A food drive last month being put on by the City of Galesburg Transit netted 5,000 non-perishable food items to benefit the Salvation Army Food Pantry.

With the COVID-19 pandemic wreaking havoc in the area, many food pantries have halted accepting food donations.

The city partnered with the Salvation Army to seek donations as part of their Pack the Bus Food Drive campaign.

The food drive was held throughout the month of November and saw the city partner with the different Hy-Vee locations in town, parking a bus there to accept food donations over the weekend before Thanksgiving.

Assisting with the donating efforts was The Strength Collective, Orange Cup Java Station, Pz’s, Cratty Insurance Agency Inc, The Carriage House, 6140run, and Cooks and Company.

In addition, the city also got help from some community members.

“A special thank you goes out to Ryan Crane, a community member who went around the community and collected donations. With his help and the help of many others in the community, this food drive was a success,” said Pamelyn Usher-Miller, Transit Manager in a Tuesday press release. “We are very lucky and thankful for this outpouring of community support.”

In addition to food donated food, $300 in cash was raised to go to the FISH Food Pantry.
