Three Republican members of the Illinois House Veteran’s Affairs Committee, including Rep. Dan Swanson, spoke out Monday about COVID-19 and it’s dangerous spread through the LaSalle Veteran’s Home. The home has seen 200 COVID cases in a few weeks and 28 deaths. Swanson, a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the Army has been a member of the Veteran’s Affairs committee since he arrived in Springfield 4 years ago. Swanson says the State owes veterans and their families an explanation of the failures that occurred at the LaSalle Veterans’ Home. Randy Frese represents the 94th District that includes Quincy, and part of Warren County. Frese is also the House Republican Spokesperson and ranking member on the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee. He says he’s “heartbroken and angry” about what’s happened at the Veteran’s Home. Weeks ago he says Republicans on the committee asked Chairman for a hearing on the LaSalle Veteran’s Home, but so far they haven’t gotten a response.
