On Saturday, November 28th, Galesburg Police were dispatched to the 300 block of East Water Street in reference to a possible burglary in progress. The property’s owner saw a light on and said there shouldn’t be anyone inside. After initially not finding anyone inside, officers parked across the street and later observed a male subject ride up on a bicycle and go directly to the rear entrance to the building. GPD announced themselves and ordered the subject to exit. The subject, 51-year-old James Black of Galesburg exited and was detained. A search of Black’s person turned up a female’s Illinois ID card from 2012, a check and receipt belonging to another Galesburg resident, and another individual’s healthcare savings card. All three individuals were contacted by police and stated that their vehicles had been broken into recently. The ID card belonged to a woman from Lake of the Hills and did not know how it got in Galesburg. The owner of the healthcare savings card wished to pursue charges. Black was transported to the Public Safety Building and charged with Criminal Trespass to Residence and Possession of Stolen Property.
