Galesburg man arrested for DUI after found asleep behind the wheel

On Saturday, November 28th, a pair of GHAS paramedics passed by a vehicle near North Seminary Street and Knox Square Drive with the driver believed to be passed out behind the wheel. The paramedics told police they drove by the first time on their way to OSF St. Mary’s and the vehicle’s brake lights were on; then when they passed it again while leaving the hospital, the vehicle had not moved. Upon arrival GPD noticed that all the windows of the vehicle were rolled down – it was 28 degrees at the time. Police made contact with the driver: 40-year old Craig Sward of Galesburg. According to police reports, officers observed Sward to be heavily intoxicated and issued a field sobriety test. After failing most of the tests and refusing to continue, Sward was placed under arrest. Open containers of beer and cannabis gummies were also found in the car. Sward was transported to the Knox County Jail and charged with Driving Under the Influence.
