The City of Monmouth is still waiting on state approval before the reconstruction can begin of the airport hangar at the municipal airport.
City Administrator Lew Steinbrecher said in a Tuesday interview that the design work has been done but the Illinois Department of Transportation still has to sign off on the project.
“Our engineer tells us that, hopefully, we will soon, finally, receive approval from the Illinois Department of Transportation Aeronautics Division on our submittal,” Steinbrecher tells WGIL. “We’ve got the hangars designed and its been under review for a couple of months.”
The airport hangar burned down in October of last year and since then the city has been working to get it rebuilt.
In October, the city council was given an overview of the new hangar designs — the only change being in the location of the hangar.
Whereas the old hangar was located to the east of the runway, the new hangar will be to the west.
