The City of Monmouth is waiting on word from the state before they can start handing out reimbursement money to local businesses for COVID-related expenses.

City Administrator Lew Steinbrecher tells WGIL that the Federal CARES act gave money to the state that could be distributed to communities for businesses.

“Help businesses, reimburse them for expenses for things to protect the public health and safety of their employees and their customers,” Steinbrecher said Tuesday. “A lot of businesses, perhaps, installed those Plexiglas barriers or made improvements to their ventilation system or maybe purchased outdoor furniture, heaters, and tents. That type of thing.”

Steinbrecher said that purchases of PPE for employees or to handout to customers are also covered.

He said the city applied for the money yesterday and should be hearing soon.

Up to $10,000 could be awarded to businesses with this money.
