With 2020 coming to a close, it’s time to look back on one of the biggest stories of the year: the 2020 election. The contentious presidential election saw the Republican incumbent, Donald Trump, lost to former Vice President Joe Bidden after a long process of counting mail-in ballots in several states. There’s still a push by Trump to have the results overturned with lawsuits filed in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Georgia, and Arizona. However, it appears to be a losing battle. East Moline Democtratic Representative Cheri Bustos won re-election to Congress with a win over Republican candidate Esther Joy King in what was a much tighter race than believed. In the state, voters had to decide if the state should alter the tax code to allow for what Governor J.B. Pritzker called the “Fair Tax,” allowing different tax rates based on income. Additionally, voters choose to not retain Supreme Court Judge Thomas Kilbride after a strong push by Republicans in the state, tying Kilbride to House Speaker Michael Madigan.
