CHICAGO (AP) – Chicago teachers punished for refusing to show up for the start of in-person classes over COVID-19 concerns have demonstrated outside the home of the school board president. Roughly 150 school employees were initially docked pay and locked out of Chicago Public Schools systems earlier this week, meaning they can’t teach remotely either. District officials said late Wednesday that the number had decreased 100 because staff either returned to school or had a valid excuse to teach remotely. The Chicago Teachers Union has objected to reopening plans saying the district hasn’t done enough to ensure teacher and student safety.
