Howard William Sundberg, 94 of Courtyard Estates of Knoxville, passed away peacefully at 1:50 am, Sunday, January 17, 2021, one day after his 94th birthday, at Serenity of Lake Storey, Galesburg.

Howard was born on January 16, 1927, in Galesburg, the son of Emil and Helen (Goff) Sundberg. He was raised and educated in the Galesburg area and graduated from GHS. He was a corporal in the 105th Army Air Force Base Unit. He married Shirley Riggle on February 15, 1948, at the First Christian Church in Knoxville. Together they celebrated 67 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on January 8, 2016. Howard worked for the United States Postal Service for 35 years. Upon retirement, he had over 14 months of sick leave built up. He also drove the G.U.S.D. school bus for 25 years. After retiring from USPS, he worked numerous jobs at Oak Run where they lived for a number of years. Howard was a coach for Y.M.C.A. basketball and Galesburg Youth Baseball Leagues.

Howard is survived by two sons, Jim (Janet) Sundberg of Arlington, TX and Chuck (Frances) Sundberg of Broken Arrow, OK; one daughter, Linda Beal of Normal, IL; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Iris (Myron) Hovind of Abingdon; and seven nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law, Dale (Joan) Sundberg; and son-in-law, Bob Beal.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory, Knoxville has been entrusted with arrangements.
