A Galesburg woman was arrested Monday, January 25th for Driving Under the Influence of Drugs for the 2nd time in five days. Thursday, January 21st, 46-year old Merita Smith of Galesburg was arrested for DUI Drugs after telling officers she was a “secret agent.” On Monday, Smith drove a pick-up truck down a restricted ramp at the Public Safety Building telling officers she was a “bounty hunter.” Smith was still wearing the medical bracelet she got at Cottage Hospital during her arrest last week, according to police reports. Smith admitted to officers on Monday that she takes numerous prescription medications and based on her recent history, officers had her perform a Field Sobriety Test. Officers, however, quickly ended the test when it was determined Smith would most likely fall and injure herself. When officers informed her that she’s under arrest, Smith became very upset and began resisting – kicking an officer in the groin at one point. Smith was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Drugs, Aggravated Battery to a Peace Officer, and No Valid Driver’s License.
