
A Fulton County man’s body was been recovered from a pond in rural Astoria.
According to the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department, the body of 62-year-old Henry J. Umphryes was recovered at about 9:59 am Friday.
The release says that Umphryes was reported missing by friends who had located his vehicle at a property west of Astoria. Fishing items were located on the ice of a nearby pond on the property. The friends had last heard from him on Monday, February 1.
Farmers of the property and friends of Umphryes had worked to remove ice from the pond, allowing Mason County ESDA Dive team used sonar on the pond to locate him.
The Sheriff’s Office was also assisted by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Conservation Police, Astoria Fire and Rescue, Copperas Creek Rescue and Dive Team, and Fulton County EMA.
No other information was released.
A memorial service will be held at 7:00 pm on Thursday, February 18, for Henry Umphryes at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria.
