The Galesburg Silver Streaks girls basketball team is now 6-0, and 3-0 in the Western Big 6 conference, after a 56-52 hard-fought win over the Geneseo Maple Leafs Saturday night at the GHS Fieldhouse.
Galesburg and Geneseo were tied at 11 at the end of the first quarter. The Streaks outscored the Maple Leafs 13-9 in the second, for a 24-20 halftime lead. It was a nip-and-tuck second half, with the Streaks outscored 17-15 in the third quarter, and they outscored Geneseo 17-15 in the fourth, to come away with the victory.
Someone different seems to step up every night, and it was Abby Davidson this time. She had 16 points and 11 rebounds, making for a double-double, along with one blocked shot. Abby was our Dave’s Autobody Crunch Time Player of the Game.
Lauren Livingston had a tough shooting night, but still managed to come away with 16 points, including three 3-pointers and three 2’s. She also had seven rebounds, three assists, a steal, and a blocked shot. Riley Jenkins finally got the lid off the basket, at least a little bit. She ended the game with ten points, eight of which came in the fourth quarter. She was six-for-seven from the free-throw line, Jenkins also had five rebounds and three assists, a steal, and three blocked shots.
Kadynce Lydic did a great job offensively for the Streaks, ending up with six steals in the game, to go along with six points.
The GHS Sophomores also got a win Saturday over Geneseo, 54-43.
There will be no game next Tuesday against Alleman, as that has been postponed. The next game will be next Friday night on the road at Quincy. You can head the game at approximately 6:40pm on 92.7 FM The Laser.
