One arrested for arson and murder in Sunday’s Pine St. fire

A 38-year-old man has been arrested and charged with aggravated arson and first-degree murder related to the fire on Sunday, February 14, at a Pine Street residence.

Fire personnel were called to the blaze in the 200-block of Pine in the early morning hours.

According to a release from the Galesburg Police Department, a preliminary investigation of the scene indicated that the fire had been intentionally set. A joint investigation between the police, Galesburg Fire Department, and Knox County State’s Attorney’s office led to the arrest of Donald A. Denniston.

The release also identified the name of the deceased as 60-year-old Katrina Hainline. The other individual who was in the home during the blaze was identified as 50-year-old Boyd Black.

Black was found outside the residence, suffering from burn injuries from being in the house. He was helped away from the house and provided medical treatment before being transported to the hospital and then sent to a burn unit.

Denniston is scheduled for his first court appearance on Wednesday, February 17.
