A battle back and forth turned into a 24 point Galesburg Silver Streaks boys basketball victory over the Geneseo Maple Leafs Friday night at the GHS Fieldhouse, 74-50, on Senior Night.
It was anywhere from a six point to a ten point game most of the way, with Geneseo just not going away, and wouldn’t allow the Silver Streaks to open up any kind of a big lead, until the Streaks seemed to wear down the Maple Leafs in the fourth quarter. The Streaks outscored Geneseo in the 4th Quarter, 23-8.
The Silver Streaks started the four seniors on Senior Night, and they responded. Eric Price led the way with 20 points, moving into 20th place all time on the GHS All-Time Scoring list, moving a point past Mike Campbell. Demarco Harden had 17 points. Aidan Wagner, with his first start of the season, took advantage by scoring in double figures with 11.
Price, Harden, Wagner, and Kyleb Meadows were our Dave’s Autobody Crunch Time Players of the Game, and they were the four leading scorers on the night.
The GHS freshmen also were winners, 53-24. The Sophomores also won, 56-37.
Saturday night, at Moline, the Maroons play the Streaks. They battled to an overtime game just a few weeks ago. You can hear Saturday night’s varsity contest starting at 7:06pm on WGIL.
