Relay for Life Trivia Night being held virtually Saturday

With the COVID pandemic forcing most events to be held virtually, Relay for Life Knox County is holding its trivia fundraiser online as well.

The event is being held Saturday night starting at 7:00 on the video-conferencing application Zoom.

Anne Giffey, with the Relay for Life, tells WGIL that registration is required as well as a small fee for registering your team.

“You’ll make a donation of $30 per team and then we’ll send you the Zoom link. We all know about Zoom these days. And, that’s how we’ll play,” she said in a Thursday interview. “We’ll play with Zoom and another program called Kahoot! For those of you that have children in the school system, maybe doing virtrual learning, Kahoot! is a really fun way to do trivia and quizzes.”

Giffey says that a team can get together, playing online while sitting in the same room. “We want people to be safe. But, to play the best, you want to be in the same room.”

She adds that the money raised helps the American Cancer Society’s goal to eliminating cancer.

“A lot of their mission is to fund research. You may not know but they are the largest funder of cancer research grants behind the United States Government. So, it is incredibly important because all of the cancer research that is done inevitably helps people — helps people we know, in fact. They also advocate for screening and getting tested. With COVID in our lives, a lot of people are not doing their regular checkups. And, I really want to encourage everyone that prevention is key. Early detection is key.”
