Weekly curbside collection of yard waste is resuming for citizens of Galesburg.

The city announced this week that yard waste will be picked up on residents’ normal refuse pick-up day March through November, changing from just monthly during the winter months.

Consisting of leaves, grass, shrub clippings, garden waste, brush, and woody materials, yard waste must be contained in a paper yard waste bag or a trash container designated for yard waste.

The city says that in order for pickup, tree limbs must be less than five feet long, cannot exceed five inches in diameter, and weigh no more than 50 pounds. Yard waste may not be burned or put in the street.

Also provided by the city is a brush drop-off site for larger tree limbs or large quantities of wood yard waste at 636 Pickard Road, to the west of Farm King.

The drop-off is open seasonally from the third Friday in March through the third Sunday in November with weekend operating hours of 8:30 am till 4:30 pm Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Mulch and compost are also available to Galesburg residents free of charge at that location. Mulch and compost are provided on a self-serve basis and residents should bring their own shovel to load the material.

More information on yard waste pick-up, refuse, and recycling programs can be found on the City’s website.
