Galesburg Firefighters, with the help of police officers, made an icy rescue from Lake Storey Friday night.

According to a release from the city, Fire and Police personnel were called out to the lake at around 6:44 for reports of a subject who had fallen through the ice and was in the water.

It was reported that the subject was in the middle of the lake, approximately 80 yards out by police officers already on the scene.

Captain Jim Pendergast and firefighter Kyle Harms donned ice rescue gear and walked onto the ice and entered the water about 30 yards from the subject.

They chopped and broke apart ice through another 30 yards to get to the subject. Once contact was made, they attached him to an ice rescue board and he was quickly pulled to shore by the remaining fire crews.

The subject was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center where they were met by a Peoria Life Flight. No word on his current condition.
