The Galesburg Silver Streaks girls basketball team picked up a hard-fought victory Tuesday night against the Rock Island Alleman Pioneers 38-36.
It was a game full of turnovers. In fact, there were no points scored until the 5:10 mark of the first quarter, when Lauren Livingston hit a three-pointer. Alleman didn’t get on the board until the 2:03 mark of the first quarter. But, the Pioneers kept scoring, leading the Streaks 12-7 at the end of the first quarter. The Streaks outscored the Pioneers 13-7 in the second quarter, holding a one-point 20-19 lead at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Streaks couldn’t get baskets to fall, could not hold on to the ball, and had a lot of turnovers. Alleman outscored the Streaks 13-4 in that quarter. But the Streaks defense came out in the fourth quarter, and got the lid to come off the basket, outscoring Alleman 14-4 in that quarter.
Livingston led the way for the Streaks with 16 points — three three-pointers, three-for-six from the line, and a couple of two-pointers. She also had three rebounds and one steal.
Audree Peck had nine points, ten rebounds, a couple steals, and one blocked shot. She hit the two free-throws to seal the victory. Abby Davidson had six points. Kiarra Kilgore hit one of two free throws in the fourth quarter that tied it up for the Streaks, ending up with three points.
But, our Dave’s Autobody Crunch Time Player of the Game was Kadynce Lydic. She had just two points in the game, but also had a couple steals, including a big one down the stretch that got the Streaks the ball back, and put them in a position to win the basketball game.
Galesburg had 19 turnovers in the game, compared to 14 for Alleman.
The Streaks are now 11-5 overall, and 7-5 in the Western Big 6 Conference.
