Three arrested Sunday for stealing copper from Ameren substation

Three men from out-of-county were arrested by Knox County Sheriff’s Deputies Sunday night for allegedly stealing copper wire from the Ameren substation on Highway 40. Officers from Galesburg and Knoxville also responded. Ameren Security had alerted police to a dark-colored Dodge Durango on the property. The vehicle was stopped on the on-ramp to I-74 off U.S. Highway 34 by a Galesburg officer. During the stop, officers located several large rolls of copper wire in the back of the vehicle as well as “burglary tools.” Arrested were 27-year-old Zachary Santini of Tremont, 34-year-old Terry Sally of Peoria, and 37-year-old Cornelius King of Peoria. They face charges of Burglary, Possession of Burglary Tools, Theft over $500, Criminal Trespass, Criminal damage to property. Santini was also arrested for driving on a suspended license.
