Around 6:00 pm on Thursday, March 18th, Galesburg Police responded to the area of South Seminary and Huston Streets when a group of children reported an injured woman laying on the sidewalk. Officers made contact with the woman: 50-year-old Lisa Monckton of Abingdon in the 1700 block of Seminary who was conscious and alert with an injury to the side of her head and complaining of hip pain. Monckton admitted to police of jumping out of a moving vehicle after getting into an argument with the driver who was her sister. Knox County Sheriff’s Deputies located the stalled vehicle near Knox County 10 with a male driver. The male driver told police he was returning Monckton to her home in Abingdon. Monckton did not want to return home and tried to take control of the vehicle. The vehicle, at one point, left the roadway, struck a speed limit sign in the ditch, came back onto the roadway, and Monckton broke the ignition key off while jumping from the vehicle – causing it to eventually stall. Monckton was transported to Cottage Hospital where she began denying having jumped from a moving vehicle. Monckton was then charged with Reckless Conduct with an April 21st court date.
