Saturday, March 20th, Galesburg Police responded to a report of a domestic dispute in the 1300 block of West Carl Sandburg Drive. The day before, on March 19th, the victim came to the Public Safety Building to report a domestic battery between her and 35-year old Curtis Wright Jr. of Galesburg. When police arrived at the apartment, they were met outside by the victim’s friend who told police the two were still inside and Wright wasn’t allowing the victim to leave. Wright had also destroyed a pair of cell phones given to the victim in case of an emergency. Wright held the victim in a bedroom and was told not to make a sound when police were knocking and calling out. GPD attempted to gain entry to the apartment numerous times, but it wasn’t until a K-9 unit was on scene that Wright opened the door. He was immediately taken into custody. Wright was charged with Interfering with a report of a domestic, Criminal Damage to Property and Unlawful Restraint. He was also charged with Domestic Battery when the victim reported it the day before.
