Monmouth College is planning to return students to classrooms for in-person learning at the start of the fall semester.

The College says it will maintain strict public safety measures as students, faculty, staff, and guests will continue to adhere to best practices and guidelines.

All Monmouth College students, faculty, and staff will be tested before the start of the 2021-21 school year, and random tests will continue to be administered throughout at least the fall semester.

Earlier in the year, Monmouth received a $150,000 grant from the Community Health Foundation of Warren and Henderson Counties to purchase SHIELD Illinois tests, which the school administers to students, faculty, and staff as well as to residents of Warren and Henderson counties.

“As more members of the Monmouth community are vaccinated and the number of positive COVID-19 cases and low positivity rates continue on campus and in our region, Monmouth will be prepared to have in-person classes during the fall semester,” said Clarence R. Wyatt, President of Monmouth, stated in a news release on Thursday.

“Of course, the virus is ultimately in charge, so that is why we will continue to observe strict guidelines that will ensure a safe and healthy campus. But in listening to our students, they have made it clear that they want to return to in-person classes.”

Monmouth resumed intercollegiate competition in spring sports earlier this month. As a member of the Midwest Conference, the College also intends to offer a full season of fall athletics.

Monmouth will also offer a limited schedule of classes this summer to help students stay on track toward graduation.

2021 fall classes will start Aug. 25 with full return to in-person classes.
