Monmouth College has set dates for commencement ceremonies that will mix some old traditions with new. Only graduates will be allowed to attend in-person but a series of ceremonies will be streamed live.

The liberal arts college in Warren County will celebrate its seniors with five ceremonies from May 15-16.

The first celebration will be the Wallace Walk at 5 p.m. Saturday on Wallace Hall Plaza. Graduates will walk across a stage in front of Wallace Hall to receive their diplomas from President Clarence Wyatt.

President Wyatt says that Student Life Staff and the Student Senate worked to find out what parts of the graduation ritual were most valued by seniors. The results indicated that one of the most cherished moments was the “walk across the stage in front of Wallace Hall to receive their diplomas.”

Later Saturday night at 8 p.m., graduates will gather at April Zorn Memorial Stadium where the Alumni and Development Office will welcome the graduates to the Monmouth Alumni Association with the Senior Send-Off ceremony, which will include a congratulatory toast.

These events will be limited to graduates only but will be streamed live on the college’s social media platforms.

Then on Sunday, there will be three virtual ceremonies- Baccalaureate at 10 a.m., Honor Walk at 11 a.m., and Commencement at noon, again available on the College’s social media platforms.

President Wyatt adds, “The last year has been a trying time for our students and their family members, and we appreciate their understanding as we continue to navigate this dynamic landscape.”
