Mr. James T. “Jim” Hecht, Ph.D., M.P.H., 75, of Galesburg, Illinois died 10:00 p.m. Monday, March 29, 2021, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, Illinois.

He was born November 18, 1945, in Moline, Illinois to Theophiel and Eunice (Smith) Hecht.  He married Caroline Hecht on August 26, 1967, in Moline.

Surviving is his wife of 53 years, Caroline, five sons, James (and Jeana) Hecht of Galesburg, Albert (and Victoria) Hecht of Bessemer, Alabama, Hugo (and Dameann) Hecht of Harker Heights, Texas, Max (and Courteney) Hecht of Kenosha, Wisconsin, and Quintin (and Guadalupe) Hecht of Cibolo, Texas, a daughter, Heide (and Roger) Keen of Orlando, Florida, a brother, Robert (and Barbara) Hecht of Wayauwega, Wisconsin, two sisters, Karen (and Nolan) Smith of Moline, Illinois and Gale (and Terry) Vogler of Moline and nine grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Jim graduated from Rock Island High School in 1962.  He received his B.S. degree in Business Administration from Illinois State University, his M.S. degree in Psychology from Illinois State University, his Ph.D. in Educational Evaluation from Southern Illinois University, and his M.P.H. degree in Health Manpower Credentialing from the University of Texas, School of Public Health.  He served in the United States Army as a Neuropsychiatric Specialist in Frankfort, Germany.  Jim held several positions in several different companies including the Assistant Director in the Psychometrics Department at the National Board of Medical Examiners.  Most recently he and his son, James, own and operate Credentialing Services, Inc. in Galesburg.  Jim is the author of two books “Concept Learning and Inductive Ability” and “Test-Wiseness and Usability of Scores Obtained From Repeated IQ Test Administrations”.  He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Galesburg.  He was also a member of The AmVets and American Legion in Galesburg.

Visitation will be 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Monday, April 5, 2021, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Galesburg Chapel.  Due to guidelines associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing and facemasks will be required with limited occupancy.  A private service will be Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at the chapel.  Rev. Dr. Pamela Marolla will officiate.  Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg.  Memorials may be made to the family.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
