The Abingdon-Avon school district is moving forward with a pair of construction projects after board members approved bids at Wednesday night’s meeting.

The District 276 school board approved bids for re-doing the Avon Elementary Parking Lot and repairing the Abingdon-Avon Middle School Roof.

The parking lot bid was approved for $169,179 to Hein Construction says Superintendent Dr. Mike Curry, adding that it was under budget.

“All these bids that came in have been very tight. Which means the drawings and the work of the architects [have been] spot on,” Curry told WGIL on Thursday. “And actually, that came in under what we had kind of anticipated for [the parking lot project.]”

The other project approved, the middle school roof, came in at $202,162, going to Precision Roofing.

Curry adds that there are a few more projects in the pipeline that could have been approved at the meeting but were instead tabled for a special meeting next week.

“The other two projects, the Hedding Grade School [Pre-K] addition and the Abingdon-Avon [secured] entrance, were tabled until next Wednesday. We have to a few other financial things but we intend to approve both of those.”

Work is expected to be completed over the summer break.

The school board also approved the school calendar for 2021-2022. With school starting August 19 for teachers and August 23 for students.
